The statistical data we collected from 58 public perfume formulas suggests that the mean dose for hexyl salicylate is 3.0%. The typical lower limit is 1.5%, and the usual higher limit is 7.5%. The highest amount of hexyl salicylate we encountered in any single formula is 21%, and the lowest was 0.035%.
Please note that according to the IFRA Standard Category 4, the level of hexyl salicylate should not exceed 6.5% of the final product. Assuming that you will be using your formula for an alcoholic perfume at a 10% dilution, this means you should only use hexyl salicylate at 65% or less of the formula.
