The statistical data we collected from 16 public perfume formulas suggests that the mean dose for farnesol is 1.5%. The typical lower limit is 0.82%, and the usual higher limit is 2.8%. The highest amount of farnesol we encountered in any single formula is 6.0%, and the lowest was 0.15%.
Please note that according to the IFRA Standard Category 4, the level of farnesol should not exceed 1.2% of the final product. Assuming that you will be using your formula for an alcoholic perfume at a 10% dilution, this means you should only use farnesol at 12% or less of the formula.
