The statistical data we collected from 94 public perfume formulas suggests that the mean dose for citral is 0.50%. The typical lower limit is 0.25%, and the usual higher limit is 1.3%. The highest amount of citral we encountered in any single formula is 12%, and the lowest was 0.0050%.
Please note that according to the IFRA Standard Category 4, the level of citral should not exceed 0.60% of the final product. Assuming that you will be using your formula for an alcoholic perfume at a 10% dilution, this means you should only use citral at 6.0% or less of the formula.
