The statistical data we collected from 15 public perfume formulas suggests that the mean dose for furfural is 0.50%. The typical lower limit is 0.20%, and the usual higher limit is 0.50%. The highest amount of furfural we encountered in any single formula is 10%, and the lowest was 0.0025%.
Please note that according to the IFRA Standard Category 4, the level of furfural should not exceed 0.0010% of the final product. Assuming that you will be using your formula for an alcoholic perfume at a 10% dilution, this means you should only use furfural at 0.010% or less of the formula.
