The statistical data we collected from 11 public perfume formulas suggests that the mean dose for citronellal is 0.25%. The typical lower limit is 0.0050%, and the usual higher limit is 0.40%. The highest amount of citronellal we encountered in any single formula is 0.65%, and the lowest was 0.00040%.
Please note that according to the IFRA Standard Category 4, the level of citronellal should not exceed 0.49% of the final product. Assuming that you will be using your formula for an alcoholic perfume at a 10% dilution, this means you should only use citronellal at 4.9% or less of the formula.
